Coach
Butch believes that coaching is all about managing a person’s evolution. A coach’s strategic goal, whatever the
context, is always to actualize the human potential for exceptional performance growth through engagement as the
basis for productive, sustained behavioral change.
Butch was a scientist before he entered the world of business. After graduating from the University of the Philippines
(Diliman) in 1977 with a Degree in Zoology his first job was to lead a diverse technical team on an archipelago-wide
survey and study of marine conservation sites. Results of the study were used to frame national policy on
sustainable management of the country’s marine resources.
In 1981 he then shifted to private enterprise where he took on roles and positions of increasing responsibility in
various corporations such as McCann-Erickson Philippines (Account manager for brand “Coca-Cola”); Coca-Cola
Bottlers Philippines (Channel Marketing Manager); Philippine International Trading Corporation (Consumer Goods
Division Manager); San Miguel Corporation (Export Manager, Magnolia Division); Kraft-General Foods, Philippines
(Beverage Group Product Manager) and McCormick & Company, Far East (Director of Business Development,
Asia).
Following retirement from McCormick in 2003, Butch became an advocate of alternative energy and, in 2005 he was
taken on as Asia-Pacific senior business adviser for a UK-based biofuel company. In late 2006 he joined HCD
(Philippines).
Butch holds certifications that include Leading Technical Professionals and Managing Personal Growth – the
Success Connection, both from BlessingWhite. He is an advocate of Open-space technology which is a framework
for productive human interaction in problem-solving and idea-generation.
